Mostly it is asking
You get to a district where somebody said the old landraces might still be grown, and then you set about finding out whether that is true. Often it is not. The fields went over to something imported, or the household that kept the line stopped ten years ago, or the person you were told to find has moved to the city.
Where there is landrace left, the work is slow and social. Sit down. Explain what we are doing. Show some of our pictures and nerd out with the guy a bit. Ask about the field, the season, what the price is at farm gate and at market, who taught them to grow, who taught them to love ganja. Then we buy seed at the price they name and write everything down, before doing it all again in the next village.
Where the writing is
The field reports sit on the expedition they came from, in full and free to read. The accession records are on landrace.wiki, where they can be checked against sources that are not us. Older trip writing is still on the blog, and some of it is still on Patreon, which is what pays for the collecting.
