Back the work
Seed sales have never paid for a collecting trip. Patronage does, and it carried the project through the years when everything else stopped.
Why it needs backing at all
A trip costs money months before any seed reaches a shelf. Travel, weeks of asking around, paying growers properly, then the slow work of getting a record into a state where it means something to a stranger in five years. Most of it produces nothing sellable. You go to four districts and find living material in one.
Seed revenue cannot fund that, and it especially could not between 2023 and now, when our accounts were being deleted and our payment rails cut off. Patrons were the reason the work continued through that.
Patreon
The one route that exists today. Patrons get seed packs from recent expeditions and a discount in the shop, rising with the tier, plus access to seed drops. It is a monthly thing and it can be cancelled whenever you like.
Nobody pays us to read about the fieldwork. The field reports and the research pieces are public, on the blog here and on the Patreon both. What the tiers buy is seed and a discount.
Association membership
The conservation and documentation side is being set up as a French association loi 1901, separate from the shop, with its own membership. That is where the wiki, the grower network and the seed commons will sit. The association is meant to outlast the company.
Not open yet. The association is still being registered and there is nothing to join until it is. Nothing on this page takes a membership payment.
Other ways that help
Buying seed helps, obviously, and it is the only one of these that gets you something in a padded envelope. Beyond that: tell people the records exist and send us word of old material still being grown somewhere. Leads have found us more landraces than searching has.
Then there is landrace.wiki. It runs as its own project, independent of us and of the shop, and it covers far more ground than our catalogue does. Anyone can edit it. If you know more than an article does, correcting it puts that knowledge somewhere it outlives all of us, which is more than we can say for anything you send here. It is the other thing worth your time and we would rather you gave it some.
Looking for help with an order?
Payment, shipping, damaged seed and returns are all answered on the FAQ, and anything it does not cover comes to us directly.
